Banksia is a genus of the family Protaceae. Its around 170 species are indigenous to Australia and characterised by their flower spikes which turn into seed cones after flowering. This photo is of either B. serrata or B. aemula (the two species look very similar).

Thanks Adriënne for suggesting the crop. This is the first time I actually agree that a crop someone else suggested for one of my photos works better than my own original crop. So I'm capable of learning (although I took the liberty of following your suggestion only to 99%)!
