The Australian Pelican (Pelecanus conspicillatus), with a wing span of more than 3 meters, the longest bill — up to 40 centimeters long — of any known bird, and a weight of up to 13 kilograms, is the largest species of pelicans in the world. Notwithstanding their bulk, Australian pelicans are graceful in flight, they can stay in the air for 24 hours and cover hundreds of kilometers at a stretch.

Emu mums leave their partners as soon as they have laid their eggs. It is the dads that incubate the eggs and care for their offspring as single parents for up to two years.
