The Hooded Plover (Thinornis rubricollis) is endemic to Australia. The eastern subspecies Thinornis rubricollis rubricollis is restricted to the coastline and numbers 4,500 birds. cf. www.iucnredlist.org/search/details.php/40246/all On Kangaroo Island, less than 200 of these small and shy shore birds are left. cf. www.tomm.info/media/contentresources/docs/FactSheet_Env_H... So it was a real privilege to spot one on Emu Beach.

The Kangaroo Island Glossy Black-Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus lathami halmaturinus) is classified as endangered and rather rare. So to see four of them at once was quite exciting - so much so that I only got to shoot a picture when they were taking off...
