S curve and a straight line

02 Jan 2025 1 28
Most back road intersections feature 90 degree lines, but this one in the Foxleigh district required a nice S-curve around the slough. I wonder how many half-tons have ended up in the water?

trees at sunrise

Driving west on the Trans-Canada Highway I spotted mist above a small wetland - commonly called a slough - beside a side road north of the highway. The sun was beginning to rise into a cloudy sky, creating an unusual colour and adding a tint to the mist.

I discovered this slough a few moments after taking photos of the rising sun by a country church nearby. It was a peaceful morning by the water.

bales by a slough

I stop for hay bales, especially the large round ones. This image was taken in the parkland area of Saskatchewan, somewhere near Wakaw.

dunlin?

I think this might be a dunlin, a shorebird heading for a slough in the upper left of this image. This was taken in Grasslands National Park, West Block.

A scene of a relatively large slough near Batoche, Saskatchewan. After a hot, dry summer you can see the receding shoreline as the water has evaporated.

elevator at Renaud

Late afternoon sun bathes the fields around the elevator at Renaud. The abandoned elevator, an unused community hall, a few sheds and the abandoned railway right of way are all that are left at Renaud. There is a sign giving the place name, however.
