a view from the ditch

Hay bales, canola fields and either the Dirt Hills or the Cactus Hills to the south in the distance. I thought it was worth a stop to capture the image with the leading lines provided by the ditch.

and a cloud of dust

04 Jan 2025 24
I was intent on taking a photo of farm buildings when I saw a vehicle coming, so I moved into the ditch. Dust is hard on lenses and cameras, but I decided to take a shot of the approaching vehicle and then m move further into the field.

After photographing a vintage barn from several angles I turned away from the rising sun and focused on a vintage wagon by the entry to a farm yard.

doe in evening light

There were two young deer standing by the side of the highway when I stopped. One took off in a blur, but the other stayed to watch for a few minutes before bounding over a fence and into a field. This image was taken on an early August evening.

deer catchlight

By good luck the evening sunlight was on the head of the deer as I took this image. Right place, right time.

Another view of a mule deer beside the highway, with the quickly changing light of sunset time. Taken near Avonlea, Saskatchewan.

Young deer in a ditch beside the highway, deciding whether the photographer is a threat or not. Taken at Sunset near Avonlea, Saskatchewan.

mule deer-late evening near Avonlea

04 Sep 2021 3 44
This is one of the few images I was able to capture of this mule deer with his head up. The light near sunset on the deer and the surrounding brush on a late August day added to the scene. Taken near Avonlea, Saskatchewan.
