ready to connect 2

I look forward to the lilies that bloom in my back garden. They look and smell wonderful, and provide for a convenient exercise in macro photography. They are a welcome sight on a -26 degree morning.

early morning quack

19 Dec 2024 1 27
I had taken a photo of a pair of ducks nestled by the shore of Wascana Lake from a nearby footpath. However, one of the ducks had hidden part of its head, so I edited the image to focus on the more animated of the two.

on the shallows

19 Dec 2024 32
On summer mornings at Wascana Lake waterfowl gather on the shallows to perform their early morning grooming. On this morning the water was calm, creating good reflections. A few white feathers floating on the surface indicate that the pelican had been busy grooming.

spider in late morning sun 2

Another image of a spider on its web in a neighbour's back garden.

spider in late morning sun

10 Dec 2024 34
A neighbour alerted me to a spider that had spun a large web in her garden, from the top of a fence to the ground. The spider was active, so achieving a good image was a challenge. This is one of the more successful images.

use your imagination

30 Aug 2024 33
Another perspective on an unusual growth on a tree beside a parking lot in Regina, Saskatchewan. At first the growth looked to me to be a bison head, which would be appropriate, since the bison head is one of the symbols of the City of Regina.

use your imagination 2

When I first saw this tree the growth on its side reminded me of a bison head. While editing the image I became less sure of what it looks like, although the colours and the textures continued to fascinate me. The unusual growth must have occurred after a large limb fell off the tree, or was removed.

yellow hollyhock - close-up

30 Aug 2024 35
The hollyhocks that grow near my home produce a variety of colours, from pale yellow to deep red. This one appeared to be asking me for a close-up.

yellow, with cobwebs

28 Aug 2024 35
This flower in my garden is showing signs that summer is winding down, with the curled petals and the profusion of spider webs.

pale yellow lily 2

This lily grows in a nearby garden. I came early in the morning to see what it looked like in the early light. I took plenty of photos, because by mid-August, these flowers will soon disappear.
