A view of a patch of beach at an inlet of Waskesiu Lake in Prince Albert National park.

pond reflections

Ponds like this one appear all over Prince Albert National Park, and around northern Saskatchewan, for that matter. The sense of stillness and the muted colours under an overcast sky attracted me to stop and take some images.

pond reflections B&W alt2

The same pond, but edited using one of the black and white alternatives in my photo editing app. With all of the alternatives offered I think the challenge is to maintain some sense of the original.

a browsing elk 4

27 Jun 2024 2 1 40
By early June the vegetation along the roads in Prince Albert National Park is inviting for wildlife like this elk. Observing at a distance for about ten minutes, the elk lifted its head only once, and I missed that opportunity. This is one of the better images I was able to get.

a browsing elk

I took this image of an elk from my car. The animals in Prince Albert National Park find the browsing good in the ditches beside the roads in the park during the summer months. This is one of the first images I took during a ten minute encounter with this elk.

a tilted dock

26 Jun 2024 4 2 45
An inlet of Waskesiu Lake, with a tilted dock in the foreground. The dock would have been installed after the ice left the lake, but it appears the footings on one side had subsided into the sandy lake bottom.

pelicans in flight

Tracking birds in flight is a challenge. This is the best of several attempts to capture these pelicans in flight, while another looks on. This image was taken at Prince Albert National Park, in Saskatchewan.

a Canadian cliche

23 Jun 2024 3 2 54
Canada is blessed with many thousands of lakes and an abundance of boreal forests that attract visitors, especially in the summer. The water, the dock installed for the summer and the forest in the background all suggested to me that this is a typical Canadian image. This was taken in Prince Albert National Park, while the rain stopped, for a while.

a soggy elk

21 Jun 2024 2 2 46
An elk seen beside a road in Prince Albert National Park. It had been raining, so the elk was wet. I don't know a lot about them, but I am guessing that the lighter coloured fur is part of a winter coat that had not completely disappeared.

time to move!

One of these White American pelicans decided it was time to move to another part of the bay, and some of them began to follow.

no picnic today

18 Jun 2024 1 38
I took this from inside my rolling mobile camera blind because it was cool and rainy. This is one of the beaches along Waskesiu Lake, in Prince Albert National Park. The beaches were mostly deserted, except for the water fowl, which didn't seem to mind the conditions.

red+green

16 Jun 2024 5 2 49
On a cool and rainy day there were no takers for this stack of canoes by a beach in Prince Albert National Park. I was attracted to the contrast between the red canoes and the surrounding forests, even on an overcast day.
