A close-up of a weathered fence near my home, processed as a vertical. Remnants of the red barn paint remain on the weathered boards.

Crayola macro

Macro night poses some challenges, including adjusting for fluorescent lights, and trying to achieve some sharpness and depth of field. A colourful if not altogether successful attempt.

After an extended period of foggy, overcast weather, a lot of frost had accumulated on every surface in my neighbourhood.

A slightly different perspective, and a different depth-of-field setting, taken beside a neighbour's fence.

afternoon light through a fence

Afternoon light in January filtering through this fence caught my eye, so I ventured into thigh-high snow to capture this perspective.

frosted twigs

Frost accumulations on the twigs of a tree after almost two weeks of overcast and foggy conditions. Once the sun came out I went out to record the frost before the warmth and the wind could take it away.

frost and berries 2

04 Feb 2023 2 40
Days of ground fog and little wind allowed frost to accumulate on everything, including trees and leaves. After about two weeks the sun came out, which makes the colours come alive, but causes the frost to vanish. I found this on a tree near where I live.

frost and leaf

In January we had about two weeks of overcast and relatively mild weather, creating accumulations of frost on everything. Once the sun came out I photographed some of the frost, before it melted or blew away.

A visit to Regina's Floral Conservatory wouldn't be complete without some photos of the large round cacti growing there.

A mid-winter visit to the Floral Conservatory is always a boost for the spirit. This was the first flower I photographed, without realizing that the heat and humidity had fogged my lens. A happy accident, I think.
