harvest complete

This is a favourite location of mine because of the visual possibilities, and because it is close to home. Good harvest weather meant the harvest was completed here by early September. I presume the storage bins are filled with canola and wheat.

Harvesting operations of grains and oilseeds usually begin in Saskatchewan in August. This image was taken in the third week of August, and the crop looks to be ready for the combine. This image was taken at the edge of a field north of Pense, on the Regina Plains.

In the darkest days of winter, with plenty of snow on the ground and more forecast to come, a mid-summer image is a reminder of what is to come.

Steel grain storage bins at the edge of a farm field where the harvested grain is hauled. Later it will be transferred from the bins to trucks using the red augers at the base of the bins. The trucks will take it to a grain elevator, likely at Pense, Saskatchewan.

Red barn paint and a vintage tractor mixed in with some evergreen trees. A Saskatchewan image, for sure.

Whenever I go by this location I stop to take photos of this steel storage bin. This image was taken after harvest, but before the stubble was covered in snow. The bin was likely filled with canola, since that was the crop growing in the surrounding field.

When I opened this image of my computer I was surprised to see the strong sepia tones, without intending that. Ground fog had softened the light all day, so when I stopped here the scene presented what I call Prairie minimalism. If you look closely at the horizon line you can see towers that carry high voltage power to communities like Regina. Taken March 1, 2022.

Power poles in farm fields in Saskatchewan are common, but a solitary tree is more rare. Combined, the pole and the tree interrupt the often endless-seeming horizon line in southern Saskatchewan.

A dirt trail that clearly sees some use, but is signed as Not A Through Road. This image was taken near Pense, Saskatchewan, in late November.
