Little Manitou Lake is so salty that you can float on it. It became saline over many years because it has no natural outlet. That also means that in recent years the shoreline rose during a series of "wet" years here on the Prairies.

A few years of higher-than-usual precipitation raised the water level in Little Manitou Lake, which has no natural drainage outlet. This left the usual beach areas underwater and trees like this one drowned.
