The hosta plants in my backyard happy fill all the space given to them, and more. Every year I dig up a couple of plants to give away or supplement another garden, but they quickly fill the empty space. About mid-July the plants open their delicate flowers, which are such a contrast to the big, showy leaves.

Someone with a whimsical sense of humour has placed effigies in the upper windows of this gracious old house. I wonder if this is a house ordered from a catalogue, which was fairly common in the early days of homesteading in Saskatchewan. This house had some fine finishing touches inside, but how it is home for all sorts of critters.

The area had been used as pasture. The fence posts and the wire are leftover from that previous use. The area is to be conserved as native grassland, and as habitat for birds and animals.
