vanishing point-Ravenscrag

I hunkered down between the rails without a worry about a train coming, although the line appeared to be still in use. The near ghost town of Ravenscrag is one of the few communities in this area.

An abandoned house with the southern end of the Cypress Hills in the background, and a rail line in the foreground. This is mostly empty country; the near ghost town of Ravenscrag is close by.

Whitemud and rail line

Ravenscrag Road and a railway branch line wind close together through the Frenchman River Valley west of Eastend, Saskatchewan. There are glimpses of the Frenchman River, which is also known locally as the Whitemud, which is evident in the formations in the background.

An image from the rear car of a tourist train arriving at the village of Horizon. The rail line on the right is the branch line that served communities along the line, the other line is a spur that leads to the grain elevator at Horizon, Saskatchewan.

An abandoned fieldstone house now surrounded by farm fields. A local legend is that the door and window on the south side were closed off after a mother witnessed her child killed by a passing train on the nearby rail line.

straight rail and curvy road

A highway runs parallel to the rail line, and the gravel road is just one of many that intersect with the highway and the rails. Taken about 10 km south of Rosthern, Saskatchewan.

One of the fast-disappearing wooden grain elevators in the small community of Horizon, an apt name for a Prairie community under the big sky.
