An outcropping of stones left behind by a retreating glacier, on a mound also formed by glacial activity. I took this image during an evening g hike in the West Block of Grasslands National Park.

The bright orange lichens on this glacial erratic caught my eye, but as I moved in closer I began to notice the striations and the colour patterns in the rock, as well.

This fieldstone left behind by a retreating glacier has been colonized by two kinds of lichens - orange and black - and by some tenacious plants that have established themselves in a crack in the stone.

Many trees that catch my eye seem to look better to me when the image is partially desaturated; not quite black and white, with some colour remaining in the lichens growing on them.
