Holy Trinity Church and cemetery

A view of Holy Trinity Church and the adjoining cemetery by the northern bank of the Churchill River, with the land rising sharply behind. This image was taken in mid-September, with some of the trees already changing colour.

Holy Trinity-west side

01 Dec 2024 20
Holy Trinity Church seen from a boat on the west side of the building. It was built between 1854 and 1860 by Cree craftsmen, with hardware and stained glass windows shipped from England. It was built in what is called "Carpenter Gothic" style.

Holy Trinity-east side

01 Dec 2024 17
Holy Trinity Anglican Church sits on a point on the north side of the Churchill River, across from Stanley Mission, Saskatchewan. It is the oldest standing building in the province, and is a national historic site and a provincial heritage property. This image was taken from a boat on the east side of the church.

a trail to a distant storm

30 Nov 2024 23
I had been taking photos of a Ukrainian Orthodox church when I noticed in the opposite direction that a storm seemed to be brewing. I hunkered down on the trail to capture the land and the sky. This image was taken in mid-September, after the harvest was completed.

tree buddies

29 Nov 2024 25
These fungi were growing from a tree beside the trail that parallels Nistowiak Falls. I checked iNatarilist, but I didn't receive a definitive identification of what theses fungi are called. They sure grabbed my attention.

rock solid-Nistowiak Falls

26 Nov 2024 27
A rock projecting above the rushing water of Nistowiak Falls in Saskatchewan. I titled this image rock solid, but of course the water has sculpted this rock and will continue to do so.

A narrow point on Nistowiak Falls, where the water rushes down, creating some mist in the air.

a glimpse of Rapid River

22 Nov 2024 1 23
Rapid River flows over Nistowiak Falls, a 33 metre drop the then flows into the Churchill River in Saskatchewan. This is a view of the river just before it flows over the falls. I took this in September 2016, and decided to re-edit it using today's more powerful editing tools.

Nameless Lake 4

20 Nov 2024 3 2 33
I don't usually have another image in mind when I try to capture an image, but as I tromped through the bush beside the road leading to Stanley Mission, Saskatchewan, I had painter Tom Thomson's The Jack Pine in my head. It was mid-September, so the trees were already turning colour, and there were few bugs! If you are not familiar with Tom Thomson, his paintings are considered to be iconic representatives of Canada's north. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Group_of_Seven_(artists)#/media/File:The_Jack_Pine,_by_Tom_Thomson.jpg
