around the round bales

Grid roads are mostly straight, but this one has a large curve around a slough situated to the right from this viewpoint. The rising sun created some sidelight on the road and the round bales in the field.

rails, bales and buttes

A perspective on the Frenchman River Valley from Ravenscrag Road, with a rail line in the foreground and hay bales and buttes in the background. By late September when this was taken the land is dry and the vegetation is showing shades of beige.

a small green patch 2

Hay bales dot the fields just north of the Great Sand Hills, but the straight lines of the hay baler were interrupted by a low spot where the vegetation was green. The remnants of a terrific electrical storm linger in the sky in the background.

bales by a slough

I stop for hay bales, especially the large round ones. This image was taken in the parkland area of Saskatchewan, somewhere near Wakaw.

two bales

My intuition tells me that a composition with three bales would be more appealing, but the farmer doing the haying had only collected enough for two. I saw this while exploring the Qu'Appelle Valley on a Saturday morning.

a curve ahead

12 Oct 2021 4 39
A stretch of highway in the Big Muddy Valley that sees little traffic. A photographer can work in the middle of the highway if needed, since you can see and hear vehicles coming from a long distance away.

a country church in the distance

After visiting the church seen in the background and taking photos there, I headed along the back road leading the highway. I stopped to photograph the scenic landscape, and then noticed the church in the distance. I think it adds another element to an appealing landscape.
