An impressive sunflower seen at a community garden.

The community garden near my home has several different types of sunflowers growing in different plots. Capturing images of them is a delightful task during the summer.

During an early morning ramble in a community garden I noticed that the rising sun was pouring lovely light on some large sunflowers growing in one of the plots. I decided to try to capture the combination.

Roaming around a community garden I saw an opportunity to capture a sunflower and the rising sun in the same frame.

There are many varieties of sunflower growing in a nearby community garden that it would take a guide to identify them. I think the ring of yellow dots on this one means it is more mature than the others I've seen there.

While processing this image I noticed some interesting colours and textures appearing as I zoomed in on the petals. I experimented with some settings I hadn't used before. The result was what I would call a painterly look.

Empty lots in towns and villages sometimes bring thoughts of what has been lost, but this sunflower plant in a vacant space showed how a place can be re-purposed with bright and vibrant colours.
