The same mallard after it finished preening and settled into a comfy spot by the water. I was on a walking path just a few metres from the duck, but the birds and animals in Wascana Park are habituated to people being close by.

A mallard I encountered at the edge of Wascana Lake on a summer morning. I think it was preening, but took a moment to check me out.

It is always tempting to anthropomorphize animal behaviour when I see something that looks like human actions. Still, I think this duck is showing (his or her) yoga moves.
