a tree in a mist 2

I stopped at one of my favourite locations on a foggy July morning to capture images of a tree and a power pole in the midst of canola field. The bright yellow canola flowers were just coming into bloom, but the fog muted everything.

By early April the snow is usually in retreat, but not completely gone. A few weeks later, this field will be seeded, with the farmer dodging around the tree and power pole. Last year the field was aglow with canola by mid-July. I wonder what will be seeded this year.

A canola field ripening near Pense, saskatchewan. If you zoom in, there is a black bird perching at the top of the tree.

When I opened this image of my computer I was surprised to see the strong sepia tones, without intending that. Ground fog had softened the light all day, so when I stopped here the scene presented what I call Prairie minimalism. If you look closely at the horizon line you can see towers that carry high voltage power to communities like Regina. Taken March 1, 2022.
