ground fog in the coulee

31 Dec 2023 2 50
Staying over with a friend in Swift Current, in the morning I noticed fog lying in the coulee to the north of his house. It was mid-April, so the trees had not yet leafed out and most of the grasses were still beige and brown. There was little wind, which is unusual for Swift Current, so the fog just lay at the bottom of the coulee.

It was common for settlers in Saskatchewan to replace their first house with a better one, if they were successful. In this case I surmise that the settler grafted the stucco covered addition onto the original wood frame house. This house sits beside a grid road north of Indian Head, Saskatchewan.

fifth season

Saskatchewan's fifth season is Springter, where Winter hangs around and Spring makes only occasional, brief appearances. I set out these chairs on one of those lovely days when it seemed like Spring had come to stay. Silly me.

I found this house beside a back road north of Indian Head, Saskatchewan. I surmise that the weathered wood frame house was built first, and as the family prospered the stucco-covered portion was tacked on later. Such home additions were fairly common on the Prairies, but this is a dramatic example.
