What had been a nice Mercedes-Benz sedan sits inside a garage in small town Saskatchewan. The engine had been pulled at some point before the garage was left abandoned. The floor was solid, but the roof had caved in a several places.

While setting up to photograph the exterior of this lovely church in Lafleche, Saskatchewan, a lady emerged through the front door and asked if I would like to see inside. Of course! Thank you! The church can hold 500, but the parish has dwindled to about 50 people, as the population of the town and surrounding area has shrunk.

After receiving permission to photograph a stone house surrounded by fields and a wetland, I took some exterior shots as the sun rose on an October morning, and then ventured inside. The warm sunlight coming in from behind me made for an interesting effect.

For photographers the challenge is to convey that welcoming feeling amid the ellipses and curves that the architects incorporated in the building.
