a fence, a barn and a red shed

02 Mar 2025 11
I may have used a fence post as a makeshift tripod when I took this image, since there was no wire on the fence. The tops of hay bales stored in the barn, behind a red retaining wall.

mind the gap

19 Feb 2025 1 19
A gap in a fence, with the hint of a trail, perhaps used occasionally by a tractor and hay wagon. A ranch house and outbuildings are nestled in the valley, with the south end of the Cypress Hills in the distance.

bird on a wire

During a stop on a back road I noticed a bird perched on a piece of mended barbed wire. Thanks to Leonard Cohen for the photo title.

friday fence

26 Jul 2024 5 8 45
After taking photos of a photogenic old dairy barn I walked over to what I think is a shelter belt surrounded in part by a wood pole fence. Happy fence Friday!

sunrise down the road 4

The rising sun just before it rises to be hidden behind a cloud bank, on a gravel road south of Grand Coulee, Saskatchewan.

fenced in at Wideview

09 Jan 2024 1 1 44
Looking at this fence line at Wideview, I thought of the time and effort (and Money) required to build it. I suppose it would make it easier to find your way back to your parked car, somewhere along the horizon line.

When you need to check to see that your shotgun or rifle is working properly, it's always good to have a road sign handy to make a test shot, or two... There aren't many road signs in rural Saskatchewan that haven't been ventilated a bit.

weathered fence-winter light

23 Feb 2023 2 47
A close-up of a weathered fence near my home, processed as a vertical. Remnants of the red barn paint remain on the weathered boards.

afternoon light through a fence 2

05 Feb 2023 2 2 52
A slightly different perspective, and a different depth-of-field setting, taken beside a neighbour's fence.

afternoon light through a fence

05 Feb 2023 51
Afternoon light in January filtering through this fence caught my eye, so I ventured into thigh-high snow to capture this perspective.

white heart patch

11 Jan 2023 3 51
A curious, friendly horse with one white sock and a white patch on its head. This image was made during a brief moment when the photographer was pulling up grass to feed the horse.

eyes through the gap

17 Dec 2022 4 51
The Benedictine monastery at Muenster, Saskatchewan, includes a farm that helps feed the community. As I hiked around the farm I had this charming encounter.

O+C = love

the outlier 2

29 Dec 2021 3 1 68
A field of round hay bales, with one bale outside the fence. Taken near Big Beaver, Saskatchewan in late September.

poppy 1

11 Nov 2021 3 3 66
Poppies were recognized for their resilience as they continued to grow even amidst the mud and carnage of WWI battlefields. Each spring I look forward to walking down a back alley in my neighbourhood, where a poppy plant appears. This poppy receives no extra water or attention, but still it appears every year.

fence line and dead trees

25 Aug 2021 2 2 48
A fence, a road and a line of dead trees, somewhere near Batoche and Wakaw, Saskatchewan. Taken in mid-July 2021.

poppy by a fence

A few volunteer poppies grow in a back alley near my home. I enjoy the contract of the vibrant poppies with the weathered fence in the background. Don’t use this image on websites, blogs or other media without explicit permission. Copyright William Armstrong. 2020
