A dramatic scene of colourful clouds shortly after sunrise, as seen during a drive in the rural areas around Regina, Saskatchewan.

lone tree in field

I will (almost) always stop when I see a single tree in a farm field. I wonder how it got there, and how it survives, surrounded by the annual crop planted by a farmer. In this case the tree appears to be dead, but the farmer is content to leave it there. Perhaps because it is the tallest object for quite a distance around, the farmer finds it worth leaving alone.

tree and pole in March

A favourite location of mine, showing a tree and a power pole in a field in March 2022. The scene looks wintry, but within a month the farmer will be readying the field for another crop.

a little chapel on the prairie

This tiny chapel could use some paint on the outside, but the interior is clean and cozy, with three pews on each side of a centre aisle. The chapel is situated in the corner of a field with an historic school house and cemetery, which is just visible in the background. This image was taken near sunset on a hot August evening. Harvest dust in the air has softened the image somewhat.

A favourite tree and power pole from a different angle, and with different sky conditions than from other visits.

A canola field ripening near Pense, saskatchewan. If you zoom in, there is a black bird perching at the top of the tree.

Some people collect stamps; others collect sheds. These are located in a farmer's field south of Regina, near Rowatt, Saskatchewan.

snow and stubble

Stubble left over from the previous year's harvest helps to catch some of the snow over the winter. A lone photographer walks through the field, although for what purpose In can't remember. Taken in February 2021 near Rouleau, Saskatchewan.

a cross in a field

A view from a country cemetery near Abernathy, Saskatchewan. The stone church beside the cemetery was built with volunteer labour in 1892, a long time ago by Saskatchewan standards. Don’t use this image on websites, blogs or other media without explicit permission. Copyright William Armstrong. 2020
