lunch is served

An orb weaver resident in a neighbour's back garden spun an impressive web this past summer, and was rewarded with a lady bug that became trapped. I used a 90mm lens to capture this image, and then tightly cropped it and used a sharpening tool in post processing to achieve this result.

During a visit to my neighbour's back garden the orb weaver resident there appeared to have caught a hoverfly in its web. The web included what looks like an intricate bow beside where the orb weaver was perched.

It may look like this critter, a member of the Orbweaver family, is looking at you, but it is in the fact the back end of the critter. I assume that what appear to be eyes may be where the Orbweaver produces the threads that make up its web. I cropped this image aggressively, and then applied the tach sharp AI tool in ON1, which made a positive difference.

A neighbour alerted me to a spider that had spun a large web in her garden, from the top of a fence to the ground. The spider was active, so achieving a good image was a challenge. This is one of the more successful images.

O, what a tangled web

A close look at a spider's web constructed within the metal framework of a bridge over Wascana Creek. It was a foggy morning, so water droplets had condensed on the filaments of the web. There also appear to be a couple of bugs captured for breakfast.

High humidity creates dewdrops on barbed wire and a spider web. This image taken soon after sunrise.

barbed web

It was a foggy morning, about 2 degrees C in the Qu'Appelle Valley, with no wind. There was so much moisture in the air that water droplets formed on everything. I tried this close up of droplets on barbed wire and cobwebs. Don’t use this image on websites, blogs or other media without explicit permission. Copyright William Armstrong. 2020
