mural-Gravelbourg caboose

18 Oct 2024 3 4 39
This caboose at the south side of Gravelbourg depicts settlers at the railway station, with the early community in the background. The restored railway station is located nearby, and now serves as a real estate office.

Tr-Rex mural Eastend

30 Sep 2024 2 2 37
Murals have become common on the walls of buildings in many Saskatchewan communities. This mural of a T. rex is in Eastend. The fossilized bones of the largest T. rex ever discovered was found in the nearby Frenchman River Valley in the 1990s. The skeleton of this T. rex is now on display in the T. rex Discovery Centre.

garage door mural-Shaunavon

19 Sep 2024 1 42
A mural on the garage door of a building in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. I searched through historical photos of Chiefs who lived in what became Saskatchewan, but I am unsure who this mural depicts. It might be Big Bear, but that is a guess.

Cash mural - Shaunavon

17 Sep 2024 8 10 77
A mural showing Johnny Cash, and, I think, Merle Haggard, on the back wall of a building in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. Country music is big in my home province!

field scouting mural

17 Sep 2024 1 39
Shaunavon, Saskatchewan serves a large surrounding agricultural area, so it is fitting that a mural on a downtown building would depict a farmer field scouting - checking the condition of the crop. This practices is becoming less common, however, as farmers use drones or satellite imagery to monitor their crops.

Gravelbourg elevator and caboose

14 Aug 2024 3 2 44
A relatively small grain elevator beside a caboose in the Franksaskois town of Gravelbourg. The town doesn't seem to promote the elevator as an attraction, although it and the caboose are well maintained. The mural on the caboose depicts settlers arriving at the railway station, which now houses a small business.

Scarth Street mural

12 Feb 2024 41
A large wall mural on a building in downtown Regina. The mural depicts Scarth Street, and by the vintage cars, I guess as it appeared in the late 1950s or early 1960s.

rough ridin mural

04 Jul 2022 52
A mural found in a back alley in Regina. It shows a Saskatchewan Roughrider fan wearing a watermelon helmet, driving a car with the team's mascot, Gainer the Gopher, in the passenger seat. The team logo is in the upper left. The mural may have been painted in 2010, the 100th anniversary of the team's founding.

Saskatchew

04 Jul 2022 53
Someone painted the logo of the Saskatchewan Roughriders football club on the side of a garage near the stadium where the team plays, but included is a small figure of a white horse, the symbol of the hated Calgary Stampeders. For good measure, the name Saskatchewan below has been interrupted by a fence.

erratic mural 1

16 Jun 2022 2 1 50
This large stone - called a glacial erratic - sits at the edge of a farmer's field, and close to the Doukhobor Caves, a National Historic Site. Doukhobor settlers lived in dug out caves on the side of the North Saskatchewan River Valley for a year or two until they could build a house. The mural depicts Doukhobor women pulling a plough, while a man at the back supervises.

painter with mural

15 Jun 2022 61
This mural on the side wall of a car repair shop in Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan appears to show the painter at the left waving to the figures beside the truck. The corner of the building on the left hand side is curved, which was common in older buildings.

mural - Ukrainian Co-op 2

09 Mar 2022 2 1 79
A street side view of the mural painted on the walls of the Ukrainian Co-op store in Regina, Saskatchewan, in happier times.

mural - Ukrainian Co-op 1

06 Mar 2022 4 82
The back wall and side entrance to the Ukrainian Co-op in Regina, seen from the parking lot. The mural, of course, was painted in happier times.
