blue hour-orange hour
31 Mar 2025 |
|
This image was taken looking west, from the western edge of Regina. It was the blue hour, but the setting sun hidden behind a cloud bank did produce some orange light to contrast with the blue.

An outcropping of stones left behind by a retreating glacier, on a mound also formed by glacial activity. I took this image during an evening g hike in the West Block of Grasslands National Park.
cactus flowers

Two very different cactus flowers that appeared to be growing out of the same plant, although I didn't get close enough to examine the cactus to be sure.

I look forward to the lilies that bloom in my back garden. They look and smell wonderful, and provide for a convenient exercise in macro photography. They are a welcome sight on a -26 degree morning.

One of the most delightful flowers that grew in my garden last summer.
bloom and buds

With mounds of snow all about, it was a good time to look back at some summer macro shots for editing. This was taken in a nearby garden to my home.

Small electric scooters like these are available to rent all over Regina, at least during the summer months. I saw these two during a morning ramble around the downtown, by a pedestrian mall.

Revisiting photos from a spectacular sunrise over Wascana Lake from a few years ago, I decided to process this one, showing the fountain in the lake (at least in the summer months).

A distinctive type of lily that grows in a couple of places in my back garden. Macro photography is difficult, but these lilies are so bright and attractive that I keep going back and trying again.

This flower grows in a neighbour's flower pot. Some folks at iNaturalist suggest that it is of the aster family.

This VW Beetle was at a car show earlier this summer. The cars were parked close together, so while I would have liked to have an image showing more of this car, this excesses what this restored 1960s vintage Beetle is about. Peace!

The historic Claybank Brick Plant had eight beehive kilns to fire the molded bricks. This image is a close-up of an arch over the entry door into one of the kilns. This was built around 1912.
bricks in storage

Bricks salvaged from some demolished buildings are stored in the sheds at the historic Brick Plant at Claybank, Saskatchewan. The random mix of colours, textures and rows caught my attention.

I found these plants in a low area of a local park, close to an outdoor hockey rink. Their vibrant colour attracted me, and I imagine they will burst in to full life when spring arrives. As a bonus I recovered three hockey pucks that had gone astray from the rink while I was setting up this shot.
Highway 32 sunset

|
Driving west on Highway 32 toward Leader, Saskatchewan, after a day of hiking and photography, I had to pull off the road to take some photos of the setting sun. Spectacular sunrises and sunsets are common here, but this one demanded special attention.

I was attracted to this blossom by the intense colour. There was little need for additional editing for this image.
