On 13th March 1948, the Grimsby steel trawler Epine GY7 struck rocks and was wrecked in a blizzard off Dritvik. Of the 19 crew only 5 survived. The remains of the trawler were washed up on Djúpalónssandur and are now protected (see inset photos). Report on the trawler Epine

Djúpalónssandur is a beach in Snæfellsjökull National Park created by two lava flows from Snæfellsjökull central volcano, 2000 year old Beruvíkurhraun to the west and 7000 year old Einarslónshraun to the east.

The pebbles at Djúpalónssandur are called Djúpalóns pearls, they are used for making jewelry. The outer layer is of volcanic glass whereas the inner part is fully crystallized (Benmoreite). That much I gathered from volcanologist Haraldur Sigurðsson's blog (it's in Icelandic and online translators make rather a hash of the language...)
