St. Georgen is one of three monumental "brick gothic" churches in Wismar and was built in the 15th century. Badly damaged in an air raid in April 1945 the church further deteriorated until it was finally reconstructed after reunification. The church is now also being used as a concert venue. Wismar together with Stralsund gained UNESCO World Heritage status in 2002. whc.unesco.org/en/list/1067 St. Georgen ist eine der drei monumentalen Kirchen der Backsteingotik in Wismar. Erbaut im 15. J, wurde die Kirche kurz vor Ende des 2. Weltkriegs bei einem Luftangriff schwer beschädigt und zerfiel zu DDR- Zeiten noch weiter. In its current form it mainly dates from 1404-1594, the spire was never finished. In April 1945 St.Georgen was badly damaged by bombs and deteriorated further over the years. After the northern transsept collapsed in 1990, the church underwent extensive stabilization, repair and reconstruction which was finished in 2010.
