Occupied by an ancestor in 1861 and probably in 1851 too. Although the building has been extensively modernized and the nearer section, containing the garages, may have been completely rebuilt, the two-storey section does appear to be C19 or older and the oldest large-scale OS map on www.old-maps.co.uk (1880) shows a two-part building with the same proportions as the existing one; the smithy itself appears to have been where the garages now are, and to have been entered from the east.
