Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens from 1911 as the headquarters of the British Theosophical Society, with which his wife was closely involved, but incomplete when requisitioned by the War Office during World War I and completed for the British Medical Association in 1923-5. Presumably a carved tablet was intended above the central window, with carved features at the ends of the façade, but these have never been executed and have been left as what the listing calls "boasted work": list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1378968 .

The wrought-iron war memorial screen and gates of 1926, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, seen through the entrance arch of the Tavistock Square front , with the west front of Lutyens' building , originally designed as the headquarters of the British Theosophical Society from 1911, but completed for the BMA, 1923-5, beyond. From SE. Cropped from a very distant view from Brailsford churchyard, but worth posting (I hope) given the quality of the building. Designed by Edwin Lutyens for W. G. Player (of Player's Cigarettes), 1912-19. According to the list description ( list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1109745 ), Ednaston Manor was described by Lutyens' biographer, A. G. S. Butler, as "perhaps the most perfect country house that Lutyens designed"; Lutyens himself recalled it as a "dear little Queen Anne house" [Clive Aslet, The last country houses (1982), p.315].
