Taken from the top floor of Stokes High Bridge Café, where my viewpoint was dictated by the availability of a free table! The brick and stone building with corner turret on the far left dates from 1907 but the echoing turret to its right belongs to the Waterside Shopping Centre, an exercise in pastiche. Spanning the river is Empowerment , designed by Stephen Broadbent and completed in 2002. The building to the right dates from 1982-3, with a block of (I suppose) c.1960 on the far right.
