Learned at a kiosk that the park rules have changed since we've been here. No open fires anywhere in backcountry camping. So we're also ill prepared with our copious firewood and grilling meats. Heading for Mojave in the morning.

So it reached 104 degrees on the way in and our plan to cross 30 miles of 4WD road to the valley proper, where it would be hotter, was not realistic. This is unseasonably hot for first week of May.
