Travelled east past the Elbow here with a rare view of the river itself.

We took some sketchy dirt roads that dropped back into the canyon to try and find a hot spring we heard about, when the transmission took a hard high center thunk. Suddenly the trans idiot light came on and it started shifting erratically. The roads got worse so we bailed on this detour.

The road opens up into a huge alkali flat while the river runs north in a narrow canyon.

Travelled west a bit to look for the Sonoma ghost town site but nothing remained.

Arrived at Sweetwater road which paralells the East Walker River and its lush riparian zone.
