Not for the squeamish or fussy, but if you like an adventure, the valley is peaceful and beautiful.

The pool filled up over the winter and was siphoned to water the lawn in summer, so it's really a pond/cistern. A toad swam around while we hung out.

There were some blemishes and an odd feeling of being the only residents, but it wasn't so bad.

We knew someone still ran the hotel, so I called up and he said, "Are you sure you want to stay here?" I assured him we knew what California Valley was all about.

The store that had briefly re-opened during my 2007 visit has re-closed, along with the old restaurant and gas station from the 1960's.

We just finished moving and didn't feel like busting out the camping stuff so we took an all hotels tour of Southern Cal. On the way we actually stayed at the nearly abandoned California Valley Lodge.

California Valley was sort of a real estate scam from the 1960's that went bust, as the water and other infrasctucture never materialized. This famous sign at 58 and Soda Lake Road is now gone, sadly.

We thought the hotel was shut down but went up and knocked. There is a guy renting rooms but we didn't find it quaint, just kinda creepy.

The eccentric hotel owner bought two of these mobile Del Tacos in LA and trucked 'em out here. He was confident he was going to open them some day (even though there was a fully equiped closed down restaurant across the street). Go figure.

The gas station is shut down. It looks like a caretaker may be living in a trailer out back.

Here's the town center we forgot to get pics of last time. It was built to promote the 7,000 parcels of land that were never sold. The restaurant and store were shut down (the store had re-opened when I was there in 2007).
