Before we could get the car moved, it planted itself right behind the tire. With the ranger present, we were not allowed to touch it, so we had to wait it out. Fortunately it didn't fall asleep or something and moved in about 15 minutes.

The local ranger said visitors are lucky to see a tortoise one out of ten times on this walking trail. Having one in the parking lot was a longshot.
