east side gallery 2 (part of the Berlin Wall)

Various artists painted their works on the longest remaining part of the Berlin Wall soon after it was opened in 1989, thus creating the "East Side Gallery". It is a Listed Building now, which did not keep some investors from tearing a gap into it only recently. Of course this led to the formation of a protest movement, which put a temporary stop to the further destruction of the wall. There is hope that the wall - and with it the gallery - will remain. This is said to be a genuine Banksy, somewhere along the River Lym in Lyme Regis, Dorset. The writing on the wall was added later, presumably by local people. It reads, "Graffiti lives and dies free!! Demand your tour is refunded if you've paid!" and is probably directed at literarylyme.co.uk who offer a 30mins "Banksy Crane" walk at three pounds fifty (see link: www.literarylyme.co.uk/banksylymeregistour.html ) to a location that you can easily find yourself if you walk up Coombe Street or down Sherborne Lane or along the river behind the Town Mill.
