Various artists painted their works on the longest remaining part of the Berlin Wall soon after it was opened in 1989, thus creating the "East Side Gallery". It is a Listed Building now, which did not keep some investors from tearing a gap into it only recently. Of course this led to the formation of a protest movement, which put a temporary stop to the further destruction of the wall. There is hope that the wall - and with it the gallery - will remain.
