Boffin @ Ty Capel

Old Light Cottage, Lundy Island

08 Sep 2012 104
Found this lovely watercolour in the OLC logbook. It depicts the view from the east-facing window. I especially like the Old Chelsea tea cup that the artist included. Would have liked to give his name but can't read it properly (Simon S...?). Please note: The copyright watermark on this image refers only to the photograph, not to the artwork.

Shute Barton Gatehouse b&w

Besides the classical view I wanted something less common, so I fiddled with the picture in silver efex pro and came up with this holga-effect image. Doesn't it look like a haunted house? I bet it is. Copyright © Baerbel A Rautenberg (BARefoot images). All rights reserved. Early Bird - No Worm

01 Jan 2012 145
The drystone wall outside my cottage (OLC) on Lundy Island turned out to be a meeting point for birds in the morning.

The Threeheaded Pony, Lundy Island

01 Jan 2012 164
This was another submission to the Lundy Island Calendar Competition, and it actually made it for February 2012, the only downpoint being that they didn't like my title. It is now called "Lundy Ponies". Aha.

"Old Light", Lundy Island, in the morning sun

01 Jan 2012 129
The little building on the far right, whose roof is poking out over the drystone wall, was my abode for this week on Lundy. In August you have to get up around half six to catch the morning sun, but on Lundy the weather is so unpredictable and changes so fast that I actually had different weather every single day of the week. Crab baskets on Lundy Island

01 Jan 2012 151
The scene was so cluttered, it took me ages to get the pic I wanted (only a little cropping in Photoshop necessary). Submitted it to the Lundy Island Calendar Competition 2012, and it was accepted as one of the smaller side images.

The Old Graveyard on Lundy Island

Sunrise @ Old Light Cottage, Lundy Island

Very early in the morning the rising sun is reflected in the east-facing window of OLC.

Ty Capel in the usual weather

Lovely Landmark in a remote valley (sleeps up to 3), accessible by footpath only, so take care of your excess luggage! This is the view from the front, only genuine with washed-out sky (it's a rather wet valley.) Copyright © Baerbel A Rautenberg (BARefoot images). All rights reserved. Ty Capel on a sunny day

Lovely Landmark in a remote valley (sleeps up to 3), accessible by footpath only, so take care of your excess luggage! This is the view from the back, taken on one of the rare sunny days.

old light, lundy island

The lighthouse itself was discontinued in the late 19th century, but you can still climb it. On the top platform you'll find two deckchairs from which you can watch the sunset. The keeper's house is divided up in two holiday apartments. They are let by the Landmark Trust, just like all the other accommodation on the island. www.landmarktrust.org.uk Copyright © Baerbel A Rautenberg (BARefoot images). All rights reserved.
