Depth of Field with a Chinon 55mm f/1.4

It's been a while since I tried out using old screw-thread lenses on digital SLR cameras. Under electric lighting, and handicapped by having forgotten how to adjust the settings on the Canon EOS 30D, I tried one last attempt on my way out of the room. This was it. It still needed treatment in Lightroom but eventually it looked up to the stringent ipernity gallery standards. Maybe.

For amusement I tried the Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 AF-D on the APS-C Nikon D2Xs DSLR. If I were more committed, I'd have gone outside.

Canon EOS 40D + Sigma 80-200mm f/4.5-5.6 lens. Lens dates from 1985. M42 mount with EOS adapter. An all-manual experience. Laborious, like conjugating and declining.

Passing bookcase with camera. Thinks...Might as well have another go. Nikon D700 + Tamron 35mm f/1.8 lens.

A New Dress

The new dress, as yet uncompleted, was shot as a JPG, at 1/320th and f/4 with ISO set at 800, using a Nikon D700, with a Nikkor-H Auto 85mm f/1.8 lens. For many years I searched sporadically for a Nikkor-H 85mm f/1.8 lens which had been factory-adapted to the new Nikon AI system introduced in 1977. The company never offered the lens in the AI range because they had a more compact f/2 lens ready to go. Opinions vary over which was the better lens, but there is strong affection for the original. At long last I found one for sale; cosmetically beaten up but still functional, as you might expect of a Nikkor lens of the 1964-77 period.

The lady of this house enjoys reading, makes her own clothes, and is particular over her laundry.

I bought a Praktica MTL 5 chiefly for the Pentacon 50mm f/1.8 lens it had screwed into it. I've used that lens on a couple of digital cameras, sometimes, but not always, with a happy outcome. I often miss focussing, and (less critically) exposure. But because of misjudgment of exposure, I will occasionally end up with a photograph that I would never have made with a modern lens. This is an example of that.
