Blue Jacket With A Yellow Button

I have discovered that the Fuji X-E1 struggles with accurate recording of blue colours. I don't recall this was always a fault. Maybe my X-E1 is too old. In addition, I am reminded of why the Nikkor-H 50mm f/2 lens (used to take this picture) enjoys such a good reputation even long after it has gone out of production.

The picture was taken with a Nikon D40 (introduced 2006, CCD sensor). The lens was an elderly Nikkor-H 50mm f/2 from circa 1971. An all-manual experience, like going back in time (except not film).

Photographed with a vintage Nikkor-H 50mm f/2 lens circa 1971 on a Nikon D3s. For years the Nikkor-H 50mm f/2 lens was what you got with your new Nikon or Nikkormat camera. It was engineered to standards unimaginable today. Optically it is as good at f/2 as at any other aperture. It was pretty much unrivalled by any other standard prime lens during its period in production. This was shot wide open at f/2 at 1/200th. 800 ISO in available light.

Photographed using a lens made c1971 - a Nikkor-H 50mm f/2. It has been modified to AI standard so that it mounts safely on modern digital SLRs from Nikon, in this case an elderly D2Xs. 200 ISO; f/5.6; 1/80th.

What place could be better to test a Nikkor-H 50mm f/2 lens made in 1971 than a dark and dingy shed full of clutter, infested by spiders, and possibly home to a family of mice? ISO 3200 on Nikon D700. Lens at f/4; shutter 1/60th. No flash, just available light from a door left ajar.
