A Conversion

15 Nov 2019 5 2 113
In the early 19th century this town prospered on the woollen industry with over 20 cloth mills. The building in the photograph was named Court Mill and the part which survives became a council-operated youth centre. When the bankers ran away with all the money, and we were punished for their sins with austerity, the youth centres were closed and the buildings sold. Court Mill was converted into private housing with a fine view over the park.

Court Mill

15 Sep 2018 138
For years the gate led to a private school. The factory building in the distance - a former woollen mill - housed a publicly funded youth centre. Then came the slump. First the school closed; later, the youth amenity. Now both buildings are under redevelopment for private housing. Photographed with a Carl Zeiss Jena 50mm f/2.8 Tessar lens. An old lens for some old buildings.
