Beech Trees

For a while I used more or less exclusively an AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G lens, sometimes coupled with a Nikon D90, as here, and others with a D50 which was inferior yet strangely often preferred. I look back on that period with wonder. The lens seemed to do everything I wanted it to; the much-criticised distortion scarcely bothered me; and it was of little weight for carrying around. Oh well.

Photographed with a Nikkor 20mm f/3.5 AI-S lens on a Nikon D700 camera. You get so close to your subject with this lens that you occasionally concuss yourself. There's no need for automatic focus at this focal length. The depth of field is stupendous.

October Votive Offerings, Avebury (7)

This clump of beech trees is on a knoll where the Avebury stone circle ditch intersects with Green Street (also called 'Herepath'). This is by no means the only place where offerings are left, but it is the most popular.

Happy Fence Avebury

A trip to Avebury. The weather forecast was for blustery winds with just an odd chance of a shower. I got a few pictures and then ... I got drenched. The cheese scone was worth the trip however. Nikon D700 + Tamron 70-210mm f/2.8 LD SP lens.
