Green Park Station Roof, Bath B&W Edit

Designed by J H Sanders, the station has a vaulted glass roof in a single-span wrought iron arch structure. The station was originally called 'Queen Square' and renamed 'Green Park' in1951. Passenger trains from this station ceased in 1966. It is now a short-cut to the centre of Bath doing duty as an occasional market. The sidings have been redeveloped by Sainbury's Supermarkets.

This is a fresh edit of a photograph taken in Bath over 10 years ago. By squeezing the aspect and cropping in Lightroom I've had some success in eliminating the distortion that was apparent at the edges of the original.

I used an AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G lens on a Nikon D50 to take this scene. The lens was at 35mm which would be 50mm on full frame. Despite its versatility, I got rid of this lens because I thought there were better alternatives. Given how little it weighed I rather missed it, but the distortion on a picture like this was bad and took some cleaning up in post processing. I probably overdid the post processing a bit in cropping, accentuating the shadows and reducing the saturation, but as I liked the result I have posted it nonetheless. 1/500th at f/11. I forgot the D50 had been set at 1600 ISO but it seemed to behave itself whatever ISO was selected.

A fresh edit of an old photograph, revealing greater detail and clarity.
Photographed with a AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED lens on a Nikon D90. A surprisingly capable lens and very sharp, but not that well built and slow as it approached telephoto.

He looked a bit listless waiting for somebody to finish in a nearby shop. He agreed quite readily to have his photograph taken.

Trowbridge, Wiltshire, was once an important town for manufacturing woolen cloth. The Handle House, a part of Studley Mill, was used to dry out wet teasel handles, which were used to brush cloth when it was wet. The open bricks on both sides let air pass through.

I used an 18-135mm lens on a Nikon D50. I cropped out distracting features. I confess to doing this often to compensate for poor technique.
