Even on a crop-sensor DSLR (the Canon EOS 40D in this case) the old Canon EF 35-135mm f/4-5.6 USM lens has its value for street photography. Mine cost me £37 on eBay. I had never seen a dirtier lens, but five minutes with a blower brush and a clean cotton rag had it looking OK and working well. I guess it came from a house clearance. Some you win and ...

Pure chance. Using an old Canon EF 35-135mm f/4-5.6 USM lens from the early days of the EOS system when film reigned supreme. On an EOS 40D it behaves like a 50-200mm (to be precise, 56-216mm), a standard lens with great telephoto capability. It was at full stretch here.

St Swithin

St Swithin was a 9th Century bishop in the Saxon kingdom of Wessex, whose feast day is on 15 July. Legend has it that he asked to be buried humbly outside Winchester Cathedral when he died but his remains were dug up in 971 and moved inside the building. The act was said to have coincided with 40 days and 40 nights of violent storms, indicating his displeasure at being moved. (Words from the excellent and incomparable BBC website). Canon EOS 40D

Using an old (and mistreated) Canon EF 35-135mm f/4-5.6 USM lens from the early days of the EOS system when film reigned supreme. I'm not sure the quality is as good as my even older trombone EF 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 which is also in a sad state, but the extra focal length is handy. On an EOS 40D it behaves like a 50-200mm (to be precise, 56-216mm), a standard lens with great telephoto capability.
