I used a Chinon 55mm f/1.4 on a Canon EOS 40D, and the light was inadequate. I've cropped the result and probably over-processed it as well.

Photographed with a Nikon lens on a Canon camera. Not that this is particularly remarkable, although the adapter is a sloppy fit and thus the sharpness comes as a welcome surprise. I think the lens used was a 135mm f/2.8, but I tried several and could be mistaken. I should make notes. Recalling the all-manual film camera where my interest in photography began, I am resolutely continuing in deploying the manual setting for exposure, and I have discovered that I like many subjects to be under-exposed by some margin. I suppose exposure is like art: nothing is actually right or wrong. Perhaps I am on the threshold of developing a photographic style.

I bought an old Chinon CX camera from a seller on eBay. I didn't want the camera, I wanted the fast 55mm lens on it. In 1976, when this Chinon model was being sold for around £70, you could pay an extra tenner for a slightly faster lens (f/1.4 instead of f/1.7). Normally that's not a difference worth paying a premium for, but in this case the f/1.4 was almost certainly manufactured for Chinon by the Tomioka company. All these years later the lens is a bit compromised by dust and opacity inside the optics, yet is capable of turning in a decent performance.

Nikon D700 + AF Nikkor 35-70mm f/2.8 lens. Dim lighting, hence 6400 ISO and f/2.8 aperture. Lens at 70mm, shutter 1/400th. I have the camera set for high saturation. Sometimes that is a bit bright, but I think it's alright here.
