Nikon D40 + AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED lens at 300mm. The full frame equivalent would be using a lens of 450mm focal length. The effect is to make the perspective appear compressed and packed up. Had I taken this photograph with a wide angle lens instead it would have appeared quite different but the perspective would not have altered.
Curiously Bob Newman, who is Professor of Computer Science at the University of Wolverhampton, and a photography enthusiast, camera nut, and regular contributor to the magazine 'Amateur Photographer' ('AP') took a more liberal attitude to perspective in 'AP' of 24 August 2019. But think about it: perspective can depend only on where the viewer is and where the thing being viewed is.

Nikon D40 and Tamron SP 35mm F1.8 Di VC lens. The D40 has a crop sensor and so pairing it with a 35mm lens makes using it like the old days of film when you bought a camera with a standard 50mm lens.

I visited the East Somerset Railway near Cranmore in Somerset on 1st July, a hot day such as Edward Thomas immortalised in 'Adlestrop'. I reflected on what enables preserved railways such as this to thrive. Enthusiasm, of course - of volunteers and visitors alike. And the availability of locomotives and rolling stock, thanks to Dai Woodham at Barry not being in a rush to break up the scrapped BR locomotives. But - paradoxically perhaps - it is the motor car which makes preserved steam possible, for it often operates in the back of beyond, and is accessible only by private transport for all practical purposes.
Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro and Tokina SD 50-135mm f/2.8 DX AT-X Pro lens.
