Falmouth '95

This actually looks better in black-and-white. Right from the off it was never a good picture. I would go further and say it was execrable. Nor would that be the only such photograph that I have posted following elementary attempts at improvement. There are many pictures that I should like to go back and shoot again.

Thought for the Day

This photograph appears because I wanted to crop and edit for colour a very old picture originally taken with a small compact film camera. I wanted to do this edit with Picmonkey because when other editors have failed, Picmonkey sometimes succeeds. For the time being ipernity makes Picmonkey available - I have no other access to it. That set me thinking. By my standards this is not a good photograph. If I were to post only good photographs I would have difficulty in finding 100. A good many of that number would have been made using a 50mm lens. Just because we can display as much as we choose does not mean we should post indiscriminately. I am therefore considering whether ipernity is a refuge for safe storage or a means of displaying my best pictures. It surely can't be both in my case.

Falmouth, August 1995. Olympus AF-1 Mini (Infinity Mini in the US). 35mm, f/3.5 fixed lens. This is a selective enlargement.

Falmouth 1995

A memorable week in Falmouth, when I shot what I then considered a lot of pictures. I should like the ability to time-travel, to go back to that week with modern digital kit and lenses, and to shoot what I now consider to be a lot of pictures, i.e. at least ten times as many. Photographed with an Olympus AF-1 Mini.

I used an Olympus AF-1 Mini compact film camera to get this picture. It was weatherproof and unobtrusive but never in the league of a proper SLR camera. However, the best camera is the one you have with you.
