Christian Malford Village Hall

22 Sep 2014 195
Christian Malford Village Hall is a part of the old village before the developers and the commuters moved in and inflated property values. The land on which this pile of corrugated iron sits is probably worth a good deal for housing. The locals have named the road on which the village hall is situated 'Station Road' despite there never having been a station in Christian Malford, only a wooden halt built into the railway embankment and operational for less than 40 years (1926-1965). In fact this street is Frog Lane, as a glance at the 1881 Census will prove, where the 'Rising Sun' pub just along the road is so described. How casually the street naming authorities treat history; how lazy never to undertake proper and simple research. The village hall was a First World War temporary field hospital on Salisbury Plain. It was moved to Christian Malford at the end of hostilities and re-erected on land provided by Thornend Farm. Nikon D2Xs with an AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF ED lens.
