Tree in Early Spring (85mm)

14 Apr 2020 1 120
85mm. But on a 70-300mm zoom lens. If I had grasped at the time of making the picture that I had framed the zoom at 85mm I would have used a prime lens of that length. But maybe it wouldn't have made much difference, and the zoom has VR, a feature which I once held in disdain, but no more. At f/8 I suppose all lenses become pretty much equal.

The Day Before the Clocks Went Back

Nikon D2Xs + Tamron 35mm f/1.8 lens. Like a 50mm on full frame; bog standard. A vile wet morning. Camera at 100 ISO necessitating a fast lens. f/3.3 and 1/45th. Just available light.

Beech Clump

Photographed with a Nikkor 20mm f/3.5 AI-S lens on a Nikon D700 camera. You get so close to your subject with this lens that you occasionally concuss yourself. There's no need for automatic focus at this focal length. The depth of field is stupendous.

October Votive Offerings, Avebury (7)

04 Oct 2018 103
This clump of beech trees is on a knoll where the Avebury stone circle ditch intersects with Green Street (also called 'Herepath'). This is by no means the only place where offerings are left, but it is the most popular.
