Nikon D2Xs + Nikkor AF-S 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 G ED lens. This is a replacement for the 18-70mm I got rid of and I am pleased to have an even better copy of it.

Nikkor-H 85mm f/1.8 Lens

It took a long time to find a Nikkor-H 85mm lens which had been properly modified to AI standard (there are plenty which have been butchered with files and power tools). The one I bought was cosmetically not encouraging, but it works well enough. Here I used it on a Nikon D2Xs with a TC-16A teleconverter.
Thomas Pindelski believes the old Nikkor-H eclipses the more recent AF-D 85mm f/1.8 - pindelski.org/Photography/2013/02/22/nikkor-h-85mm-f1-8-lens
I think he could be right. But the AF version is pretty good, and availability is better. (Besides which, you don't have to twiddle a focussing ring with all the attendant uncertainty and doubt).

The Tamron 35mm f/1.8 VC performs well at this close-up stuff. f/6.3; 1/60th. Nikon D700.
