The Nikon D2Xs (2006) is not recommended for low-light photography, and if high ISO levels are chosen to get round that difficulty, the quality of the photograph will be poor.
There are three other ways round this problem. One is to increase the light. I tend to avoid that. Anyway, the D2Xs lacks a built-in flash.
The second is a long exposure using a support such as a tripod. I lack the space for that.
The third is to use a very fast lens, or (as in this case) a fairly fast lens which can do image stabilisation. You need to get more light in and hold it together for a long exposure. That is the path I took, using the Tamron 35mm f/1.8 VC lens.
Well ... it's a bit of a compromise alright. I kept the ISO at 200. Even at 400 ISO the D2Xs gets a bit moody. The lens was wide open at f/1.8. The shutter, hand held, went off at 1/15th. This was my third mug of coffee so holding the heavy camera steady was a greater challenge than it otherwise might have been
I wonder if golf players make things deliberately difficult for themselves ...

Garry Winogrand said, "All things are photographable". He considered that photography was not about the thing being photographed, it was about how that thing looked photographed. I find that attitude refreshing. Tea is also refreshing.
Photographed with a Nikon D50 and Nikon 28-80mm f/3.3-5.6 G lens.
