Neonicotinoids are among the most widely used insecticides in crop protection. Because they affect the central nervous system of insects, neonicotinoids kill a wide variety of both target and non-target insects. Neonicotinoids contaminate wetlands, streams, and rivers, and due to their widespread use, pollinating insects are chronically exposed to them.
